TENUTA SAN MARCELLO

In the hinterland of Senigallia 220 mt above sea level lay the splendid Marchigian hills where the soil is a unique wonderful chalky clay loam that combined with the salty Adriatic breezes, provides the ideal growing conditions for two esteemed native vines that produce two exceptional wines: Lacrima di Morro d’Alba DOC and Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC. Enthralled with their aroma & history we decided in 2008 to plant four hectares adjacent to the Tenuta; this has enabled us to produce four exceptional labels - a table and a superior wine with each variety - all vinification in the purest form. We are proud to proclaim a planting density in the vineyard of 5,600 plants per hectare cultivated with the “Guyot Cordon” system, which produces a superior fruit with just 1kg of grapes per vine. We use no herbicides or chemical fertilisers and the winemaking process uses traditional methods with a low environmental impact. Our aim is biodynamic agriculture - a system that respects the earth’s ecosystem and considers as a whole the soil and the life that grows from it. Our harvest is then carried out carefully by hand and the pressing is done within an hour of collection – this allows us to reduce by up to 50% the use of sulphites compared to other traditional methods. The use of the most innovative wine making technology also enables us to work the grapes and must in the total absence of oxygen thereby preserving & maximising the typical wonderful aromas of Lacrima & Verdicchio. Fermentation then occurs under controlled temperature using geothermal plant powered 100% by renewable sources. We invite you to sample our lovingly created wines!
